GE’s Advanced Breathing System (ABS) features small breathing system volume, allowing response to fresh gas changes quickly. This is true even during low flow anesthesia. Detachable ABS and multi absorber canisters make delays avoidable.

 Responsive Gas Delivery

  • Avance employs the Advanced Breathing System (ABS),  designed to enable uncomplicated gas delivery for anesthesia procedures.  Small breathing system volume means the ABS can respond to fresh gas changes quickly. This remains true even during low-flow anesthesia. 
  • The ABS includes a manually operated bag to ventilator switch.
  • The no-tool disassembly enhances timely cleaning and maintenance. The ABS is autoclavable, so sterilization is not a complex procedure.

  • Each gas is simultaneously monitored on multiple sensors. The respective gas sample is measured and maintained at standard temperature and pressure (STP).

 PCV-VG – Pressure Control Ventilation Volume Guaranteed

Patient compliance in the lungs changes breath by breath. Pressure Control helps maximize allowable time for gas exchange while delivering the same volume regardless of changes in compliance.  

PCV-VG delivers the same tidal volume with all the benefits of Pressure Control Ventilation.  

  • PCV-VG is designed to make sure your patient receives the same volume regardless of compliance changes triggered by packs, retractors, position, surgical exposure, or relaxation.
  • Provides consistent tidal volume in the face of compliance changes.
  • In PCV-VG, the Smartvent 7900 maintains the preset tidal volume with low pressure by employing a decelerating flow.
  • The initial breath delivered to the patient is volume-controlled. This is viewable on-screen with a ‘square’ flow waveform as well as a ‘shark-fin’ pressure waveform.
  • Patient compliance is calculated from this volume breath, and the inspiratory pressure level is then determined for the subsequent PCV-VG breaths. PCV-VG breaths are characterized by a decelerating flow waveform and a square pressure waveform.

 PSVPro – Pressure Supported Ventilation

The GE Healthcare 7900 SmartVent’s advanced feature PSVPro (Pressure Supported Ventilation) expands the clinical capabilities of the Anesthesia Delivery portfolio to help meet the needs of your patients.

With a wide patient range capability, an adjustable flow trigger, PEEP, and apnea backup mode, the PSVPro mode makes the task of caring for your spontaneously breathing patients less stressful. PSV supports spontaneous breathing through the supplementation of pressure to the airway responding to patient initiated breaths.

  • As PSV occurs, once a breath is initiated the ventilator pressurizes the airway to a desired inspiratory support pressure (Psupport).
  • The “Pro” piece of PSVPro refers to the apnea backup feature. After a clinician-selected time interval, apneic patients are mechanically ventilated through a SIMV pressure mode.

PSV Pro:

  • Assists in overcoming the resistance within the breathing circuit and patient circuit, enabling a lessening in the patient’s effort in breathing
  • Helps counter the decrease in the patient’s functional residual capacity (FRC) and the reduction in muscle contraction due to administered anesthetics
  • May be used with LMAs due to inherent lower airway pressures
  • With automatic apnea backup mode, uses an SIMV-PC + PSV mode to maintain a minimum minute ventilation in the event the patient ceases spontaneous breathing.
  • With adjustable inspiration termination, allows fine-tuning to the patient’s current breathing pattern.
  • Supports virtually all spontaneous breaths

 SMV – Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation

The GE Healthcare 7900 SmartVent features advanced SIMV (Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation) expanding the clinical capability of our anesthesia delivery equipment portfolio to help meet the needs of your practice.  

With its broad patient range, an adjustable flow trigger and trigger window, the SIMV mode aids simplification of the work of caring for your spontaneously breathing patients.  

SIMV is built to provide assured rates and tidal volumes in a modality supplementing the patient’s own spontaneous effort. By synchronizing to the patient, the ventilator responds to the breathing requirements of your patient. 

Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation allows the ventilator to determine the patient’s breathing and enable spontaneous breathing between mechanical ventilations. This while providing desired mandatory breaths in the event the patient’s own rate falls below a preset value.  

Synchronization provided in SIMV mode means the ventilator will assist  in a patient’s own breathing when that process falls within the synchronization window as set by the clinician. These synchronized ventilations are designed to help overcome difficulties which can be experienced when patients try to compete with controlled mechanical ventilation.

During the administration of general anesthesia, various agents are known to affect overall respiratory rate and volume. Among these are narcotics, inhalation agents, neuromuscular blocking agents, sedatives, or any combination of these. The application of SIMV is in keeping with its function to manage these situations providing for a minimum volume.

The lung ventilation procedures of Vital Capacity and Cycling may be useful in helping clinicians with patients experiencing lung complications during anesthesia.

  • Vital Capacity: The Vital Capacity procedure automates the manual bag ‘squeeze and hold’. PEEP can be programmed at the conclusion of the procedure to help sustain an open lung.
  • Cycling: Cycling is a procedure allowing the practitioner to configure a lung ventilation maneuver. Programmable steps enable  increasing and decreasing PEEP levels during mechanical ventilation.

• Since the mixer delivers fresh gas directly to the inspiratory port upon your command, there is no fresh gas or agent wasted to “charge the circuit”. This facilitates low flow clinical practice – even when changing from very high to very low flows.

• Dual flow sensing technology works to ensure safe operation. Gas flow is checked 200 times each second to insure the equipment is delivering the proper blend based on your setting.

Special features of the Avance are engineered to make it user friendly and enable you to direct more attention to your patient.
• System checkout is fast and intuitive, with full-color photo images to illustrate each step and confirmation tones when each test is complete. A real-time clock displays the interval to complete each test and the date and time it passed.
• Patient trends can be displayed in three views: measured (numerical), settings, and graphical. Trend data is saved every five minutes for the most recent 48 hour period and every 30 minutes from 48 hours to 14 days.
• Quick Keys let you easily change O2 and total flow settings. You can use Vent Setup keys to enter and/or change multiple settings and hit one button to confirm them.
• You can press any Gas or Vent key to take the machine out of standby and initiate gas flow to start the case. This an esssential element in dealing with emergency cases.
• An 8-second power-down delay protects against accidental shutdown during a case.
